The Riad
Behind a discreet door in a lane of the old medina, Riad Kettani reveals what Fassi houses keep hidden: a light-filled patio, ornate lounges and a terrace open to the rooftops. Lovingly restored, the house has kept the soul of Fez's heritage while offering today's comfort.
The patio, heart of the house
Like every traditional home in the medina, the riad turns its back on the street and opens onto its heart: a patio where a zellige-clad fountain sings. This is where the welcome tea is served, in the shade of the arcades, in a calm that only thick ancient walls can offer.
Zellige, carved cedar and chiselled stucco
The riad brings together the three great crafts of Fassi artisanship: zellige tiles assembled piece by piece, carved cedar ceilings and doors, stucco chiselled like lace. Chandeliers, hangings and painted furniture complete a décor where every detail has its purpose.
The terrace, above the rooftops
Up on the roof, the terrace takes in the whole medina: minarets, hills and, on clear days, the Atlas mountains. Breakfast is served here in the morning sun, and tea as the city lights up at dusk.
